December's Weather- 1st: Snow and ice plastered Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Illinois and Michigan which caused major travel problems and 4 deaths. Western Colorado was hit with up to 3 feet of snow and winds gusting to 60 mph.
- 2nd-3rd: The Midwest storm moved eastward bringing snow, rain and very strong winds. The death toll for the storm rose to 16. The storm intensified off the New England coast bringing hurricane force winds to Maine and a foot of snow. A powerful storm slammed into Washington & Oregon with flooding rains and winds of hurricane force that gusted to over 100 mph knocking out power to thousands of homes and causing mudslides. At least 4 deaths were due to the storm.
- 5th: A powerful storm hit Hawaii with flooding rains and wind gusts to 70 mph that downed trees, ripped roofs off homes and knocked out power.
- 6th: Snow and ice in the mid-Atlantic with 2 deaths due to the ice in North Carolina.
- 8th-9th: A powerful snowstorm dropped up to two and a half feet of snow on the Colorado mountains.
- 9th-10th: A deadly ice storm swept through the U.S. Plains leaving more than 400,000 people without power as temperatures plunged and was blamed for at least 14 deaths.
- 13th: Rain, sleet and snow from New Jersey into New England. Snow depths in New England ran from 3 inches to almost a foot.
- 14th-15th: A storm in the lower Mississippi Valley dumped rain and snow, with over a foot in parts of Kansas, as it tracked towards the Ohio River Valley.
- 15th-16th: Snow, sleet, freezing rain and plain rain with strong winds from the Midwest to New England that disrupted air and road travel and caused wide spread power outages. At least 3 deaths were related to this storm. Over a foot of snow fell in some areas. The SE was hit with severe weather that included a tornado in northern Florida that destroyed a jail and Georgia had 3 tornadoes that cause some damage.
- 17th: More than 100,000 utility customers in Oklahoma were still without electricity, more than week after a fierce winter ice storm blasted the nation's midsection. Power was also being restored in Kansas and Missouri, where thousands of residents remained in the dark. Some rural areas in Kansas were expected to be off the grid for a week or more.
- 22nd-23rd: A blinding snowstorm blew across the Plains, causing at least 23 deaths, over 400,00 homes and businesses without power and dozens of injuries in numerous multi-car pileups and forcing authorities to close portions of several major highways.
- 24th: Near hurricane gusts of wind in the Los Angeles area knocked out power to many homes.
- 27th: The Los Angeles area was hit with strong winds with the mountains getting the strongest winds with gusts nearing 80 mph.
- 27th-28th: Colorado hit with it's second Winter storm in 2 days. Denver got over 6 inches of snow, while in the higher mountains up to 20 inches fell.
- 31st: Boston, MA with nearly 20 inches of snow in December was just one of many cities in New England that had record snowfalls for the month.
