Greetings folks and welcome to the October issue of the Weatherfun Newsletter. Yes, time is flying by, summer is now history, and we are well into Fall. Columbus Day is this coming weekend, and we can already feel a chill in the air here in the Northeast. So, far no frost here in Warren, but I am sure that will change very shortly. The big story of course is his year's hurricane season. Here it is the beginning of October and so far damage from this seasons tropical storms and hurricanes have been at a minimum. We have had several storms but so far most of them have been fish storms. However if you believe in the Old Farmers Almanac, you will see that they are predicting one more hurricane event in my area mid October. As we all know the hurricane season goes to the end of November. Weatherfun Store. A great new addition has been added to the Weatherfun Mall. The Weatherfun Store opened on October 1st. What a great way to let everyone know that you belong to the greatest weather group on the net "Weatherfun". Why not make a purchase from the Weatherfun Store and show everyone that you belong to the greatest weather group around "Weatherfun". As you know I have some of these items in my possession and I let people know that I belong to the greatest weather group there is. Please keep in mind that the price of these items is slightly over cost and all Weatherfun members get an extra 10% off your purchase. Now how can you beat a price like this. Wal Mart can't even come close to this. Weatherfun Reunion: No it is not to early to talk about the 2007 Weatherfun Family Reunion. We had a great time at this year's reunion, and I know I say this all the time, but just wait for the 2007 reunion. Yes, we plan to knock your socks off this year folks. Some of the possible events we are thinking about are: A visit to the summit of Mount Washington, and a whale watching cruise off of the Mass. Coast. As you know I have just been to the summit of Mount Washington and believe me when I tell you if you have not been there yet, by all means plan to attend next year's reunion. This is a trip of a life time, and a trip that I have hoped to take, for many years. I have also talked with friends and family members who have been on a whale watching cruise and they say it is great to see these large whales come up out of the water just feet from the boat that you are on. These two events alone are great reasons to plan to attend the 2007 reunion. So, you have the date of the second week in July. I know some of you will be planning your vacations shortly, so why not set aside this time period and head Northeast to the Weatherfun Family Reunion. You and your family will have a great time. We even guarantee you a great time. That's it for now folks. Have a great fall and see you all next month. I cannot believe that the holidays are just around the corner. My how time does fly. September's Weather 1st: Ernesto downgraded to a tropical depression dumps 6 to 12 inches of rain on North Carolina into Virginia with 263,000 customers losing power. Flooding caused evacuations of people near rivers and one person died due to the storm. 2nd: The remnants of Ernesto continued to wreck havoc in the mid-Atlantic states causing flooding that forced hundreds of people out of their homes, and more than a half-million homes and businesses with no electricity. At least four deaths were blamed on the storm in Virginia, plus one in North Carolina. 3rd: TD #6 forms in the southern central Atlantic. 3rd-4th: 80 to 90 degree temperatures throughout the NW. The remnants of John brings flooding rains from western Texas to southern California. A sixth person died from the flooding rains of Ernesto in Virginia. 5th: TD #6 becomes TS Florence with winds to 40 mph about 1/2 way across the Atlantic. 10th: Florence becomes a hurricane, South of Bermuda with 75 mph winds. 11th: Florence passes about 90 miles west of Bermuda, which had wind gusts to over 100 mph. While there was some damage to homes, the biggest problem was power outages. TS Gordon forms well of the coast of Africa. 12th: Heavy rain along the coast of Mississippi, Alabama and the Panhandle of Florida with some areas getting over 4". TS Helene forms off the coast of Africa. 13th: Approximately 2 to 4 inches of rain fell on parts of Chicago's South Side early in the morning causing flash floods with several people needing to be rescued from their cars. Gordon becomes a hurricane. 14th: Gordon becomes the first Cat 3 hurricane of the season, but is a fish storm. 15th: Severe weather in Nebraska with at least one tornado. Heavy rain in southern New Jersey of 4-6 inches and on the eastend of Long Island with 5-8 inches. 16th: Helene becomes a hurricane well out in the Atlantic and no threat to land. Severe weather in Minnesota killed a 10 year old girl, injuried several other people and caused power outages. It was determined whether this was a tornado or straight line winds. 17: Helene becomes a Cat 2 hurricane, but stays well out in the Atlantic. 21st: A strong storm in the Plains caused up to 12 tornadoes from northern Texas to Kansas and up to 16" of snow in parts of the northern Rockies. 22nd-23rd: Severe storms in the southern U.S. Midwest from Missouri to Kentucky produced heavy rains over 10" in some areas, hail, flooding and tornadoes caused at least 12 deaths. 24th: Major flooding from the heavy rain from the day before in Kentucky. 28th: TD Issac forms well out in the Atlantic and doesn't look to be a problem.
