Greetings fellow Weatherfun members, and welcome to your June Weatherfun Newsletter. Well, here we are at the half way point of the year, and some special weather events that start in June. First, welcome to summer. Oh I can hear you now. Jerry, summer does not start until June 21st, but meteorologically speaking summer begins on June 1st. So welcome to summer. We are in the start of the warmest portion of the year. Nice warm days, that last well after the hour of 8 PM. A time of year to get out and enjoy the great weather before you know what sets in, and you now what fly's through the air. But, winter is a long way off so let's enjoy the great summer weather that we have now. The next big event that happens in June is the beginning of the 2006 hurricane season. Yes June 1st. is the official opening of he hurricane season that goes until the end of November. This year, we are going to try to do something different here on Weatherfun. We are going to try to get as much hurricane information out to you, so that you can be prepared for the season, and also share this very important information with your family and friends. We all know what a tough hurricane season we had last year, and the fact that it is touched several of our Weatherfun members, and how it changed their lives. So, let's do as much as we can to get better prepared and be informed. The next big event of course is the 5th anniversary Weatherfun Family Reunion. Can you believe we are only a matter of a few weeks away from the reunion as I write this note? We still have rooms available at the Quality Motor Inn, so why not call the Inn now and reserve your room, and attend the greatest party around. As I have said before you really do not know what a great bunch of friends we have here on Weatherfun until you meet them in person. So, as the man says on TV COME ON DOWN. Be sure to mention that you are a member of Weatherfun when you call for your reservation, so that you can get the special room rates. Further information will be coming to your desktop shortly. May's Weather 2nd: Severe weather struck southern Oklahoma and parts of Texas, where there were numerous reports of hail and several tornadoes. 3rd: Storms brought high winds and flash flooding to parts of Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, sweeping a crowded van off a bridge and killing one of its passengers. 4th: Strong storms again in parts of Texas with heavy rain and hail that flooded roads. Several areas had hail larger than 2 1/2". 5th: More brush fires eastern Florida, where it's been a very dry Spring. Still more storms in Texas with flooding rains, damaging winds, large hail and several tornadoes. 7th: Strong storms in the Southeast with hail up to 2.75 inches and damaging winds that gusted to 60 mph. 9th: Due to very little rain over the past 2 months, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency and put the National Guard on alert to fight wildfires that have scorched thousands of acres and caused deadly traffic accidents. Three people were killed and 10 others injured when tornadoes struck across parts of northern Texas. 11th: Snow fell in Wisconsin and in the northern part of the state over 8 inches fell with winds gusting to 70 mph. While in Phoenix, AZ it hit 100 degrees for the first time this year. 12th: Heavy rain from New Jersey to Connectic with totals running from 2 to 5 inches. 14th: Torrential rain forced hundreds of people from their homes in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and southern Maine with water flowing over dams and washing out roads. New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney both declared states of emergency, activating the National Guard to help communities respond to the storm. Forecasters were predicting 12 to 15 inches of rain by the end of the storm in parts of southern New Hampshire. 15th: Severe thunderstorms damaged an airport building and some planes while knocking out power to about 30,000 South Florida customers. 16th: Rain soaked New England for a fifth straight day after the worst flooding in 70 years forced thousands from their homes overnight. Rainfall totals for the storm were record setting. Most areas had 6-12 inches of rain. 18th: After several weeks of temperatures running some 15 to 20 degrees above average in the Northwest, cooler air was moving in. Melting mountain snows from the warm weather had caused a number of flood watches and warnings as rivers overflowed their banks. While in the east, violent storms blew through central Kentucky splintering buildings and slamming a tree onto an SUV hard enough to kill its driver. 21st: "A small, but rather intense" tornado in New Hampshire flipped a truck with 2 men inside. Luckily there were only minor injuries. 22nd: Summerlike temperatures continued for much of Texas and Florida. 25th: Severe thunderstorms lashed through Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana leaving five people dead and a 4-year-old girl missing. 26th: Summerlike temperatures for the last several days in the Midwest with many places having 90+ heat. 29th: Parts of SE Texas hit with heavy rains. Houston had over 4 inches that flooded many roadways. 31st: More rain in SE Texas.
