Greetings fellow Weatherfun members and welcome to the July issue of the Weatherfun newsletter and Jerry's words. Here we are at the 4th of July and our nations birthday and I hope everyone enjoys themselves, some great weather, but above all a safe holiday. The weather here in Warren has been warm and humid with a lot of heavy to severe T-storms. Last week we had a severe T-storm form right over us, and this continued until around 7PM that evening. We had dime to nickel size hail, and a lot of dings have been reported to auto insurance companies. Of course as you know some areas of the nation has had some severe flooding. As of this writing we are watching the tropics as it looks like Bertha is about to be formed. It is early in the season and we have a long way to go. We are in our 11th hour of getting ready for our annual Family Reunion. This time next week the first arrivals will have arrived and we will be taking our first event. One of the highlights of this year's reunion will be a visit to the NWS out of Taunton, Mass. This is a tour that I have been trying to get us for several year's, and this year we lucked out. The only thing that would limit us would be severe weather, and this would limit us to the outside, and touring the instruments on the outside of the building. June's Weather 3rd: A band of storms hit Indiana that splintered homes, swept vehicles from flooded roads and dumped a historic covered bridge into a river. Three people were killed. 4th: Severe weather in the mid-Atlantic states with heavy rain, flash floods and damaging winds causing power outages and also resulted in 2 deaths. West Virginia and northern Virginia were hit the hardest. While Nebraska had at least 2 tornadoes. 1st-5th: Record heat from the SW to the Gulf Coast. 5th: Severe weather in the Plains with tornadoes in Kansas and Nebraska. Winds up gusting up to 75 or 80 mph pounded Oklahoma, causing fires, power outages, and considerable property damage. 6th-7th: Storms in central Indiana brought flooding rains. Up to 10 inches of rain fell in some areas flooding, highways and homes. A number of counties were under a State of Emergency and 7 deaths were reported. 7th: Powerful storms swept across Wisconsin with baseball-size hail and high winds. Roofs were blown off homes and trees and power lines were toppled with flash flooding. 8th: The Chicago area got pounded by severe weather with five tornadoes touching down in the southern suburbs. 10th: Rain in the Midwest caused flooding that turned streets into rivers and rivers into wild torrents that burst through dams and thundered over banks, destroying buildings and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of homes in the region.Twenty one counties in Indiana, 43 counties in Iowa and 30 counties in Wisconsin were declared disaster areas by the governors in those states. In Michigan, hundreds of thousands of people remained without power because of the storms, including two possible tornadoes, that snapped power poles across the state. 11th: A late spring storm that rolled through central Montana dumped two to four inches of snow that downed numerous power lines and caused power outages. A rash of tornadoes tore through central US states killing six people including four teenage boys who died when their Scout camp in Iowa suffered a direct hit. In Kansas tornadoes kill 2 people. 6 deaths related to a heat wave in New York City with temperatures in the 90s. Strong storms broke the Heat Wave, but knocked out power to thousands in the New York City/New Jersey area. The Cedar River in Cedar Rapids, IA poured over its banks, forcing the evacuation of nearly 4,000 homes, causing a railroad bridge to collapse and leaving cars underwater on downtown streets. 14th: After a very wet Spring, the recent heavy rains in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri have caused major flooding. 17th: Several levees in Iowa and Missouri could hold back flood waters forcing mass evacuations with homes being swept away and crops under water. 18th: Flood waters reached the Mississippi River with at least 20 levees failing. At least 24 deaths have been blamed on the worst flooding in years. 20th: Thunderstorms moving across the eastern Colorado plains spawned at least six short-lived tornadoes, mostly near towns along Interstate 70, that caused no apparent damage. 21st-22nd: Parts of northern Florida hit with heavy rain. Tampa got over 5 inches. 23rd: With less than normal Spring rains, wildfires raged in parts of southern California. Low humidity, warm temperatures and high winds helped fed the fires. 26th: Two tornadoes touched down briefly in eastern Colorado.Both tornadoes lasted about five minutes and were in a field with no houses nearby. 27th: Severe storms with strong winds swept through the Plains toppling trees and power lines, and hail the size of baseballs. 2 people in Iowa were killed when the wind knocked down a tree on to the car they were in and two other people died in Nebraska from the storms. Hundreds of lightning-sparked wildfires have turned the air of Northern California into an unhealthy stew of smoke and ash, forcing the cancellation of athletic events and other outdoor activities. 29th: A 5-year-old was killed when strong winds blew over a row of tents at an Alabama air show during storms that stretched across the South, while severe weather caused airport delays in the East,
